As preparations continue for the Singapore 7s, the final squad of the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side will be named a week after the McDonald's Coral Coast Fiji 7s.

The McDonald's Coral Coast Sevens will be held from next Thursday to Friday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Head Coach Osea Kolinisau says the period leading into the Coral Coast 7s is an important one, as the coaching staff continue to assess players across tournaments, training standards and overall consistency.

Kolinisau says the squad was given a two-day break before Christmas to allow players to spend time with their families, followed by the New Year spent at home.

He acknowledged the importance of family support in the players’ lives but admitted disappointment with the team’s recent performances.

Following the New Year break, Kolinisau revealed that the intensity and standards at training initially did not meet expectations, prompting discussions with the players.

He says it wasn’t the standard he wanted and understand that it was the festive season.

The Head Coach says he has reminded the players about the sacrifices they need to make and the responsibilities they have as national representatives.

Kolinisau adds that the squad has three weeks to lift their standards and return to the level required ahead of upcoming international commitments.

The Singapore 7s will be held on the January 31 to February 1.
