Fiji Airways (Fiji Link) will operate 44 additional flights to and from Savusavu Airport during the closure of Labasa Airport, which will be temporarily shut from 16 February to 27 March 2026 for critical runway pavement strengthening works.
The organisation says alternative arrangements have been made in collaboration with key stakeholders to minimise disruption to travellers and businesses.
It says that Northern Air will operate two daily flights on the Savusavu route, and ground transport services will also be in place, with normal bus services operating as usual.
It adds that passengers with direct hotel bookings in the Northern Division will receive minibus pick-up schedules, with timetables and route information shared through official channels and social media platforms.
Fiji Airports Chief Executive Officer, Mesake Nawari says the decision to temporarily close the airport was not taken lightly.
He explains that these runway upgrades are vital to addressing structural issues and ensuring continued compliance with international aviation safety standards.
He adds that Fiji Airports remains committed to maintaining air connectivity for Vanua Levu during the upgrade period and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation.
The upgrade works are being funded through the Fiji Tourism Development Program in Vanua Levu (Na Vualiku Project), with support from the World Bank.
Fiji Airports says the upgrades are part of its long-term infrastructure improvement programme, aligning with its vision to become a world-class aviation hub in the Blue Pacific.
The organisation also reiterated its commitment to the ongoing development of the national airport network to support Fiji’s economic growth and regional connectivity objectives.
