Eligible voters urged to register as 2026 Local Govt process begins

Voter registration for the 2026 Local Government Elections has officially begun, with the Fijian Elections Office urging eligible voters to sign up early.

The Elections Office says in a symbolic start to the registration process, Justice Usaia Ratuvili, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of the Republic of Fiji, became the first person to register earlier today.

It says registration was carried out at the Voter Services Centre at the Suva Civic Centre foyer.

Justice Ratuvili is urging all eligible Fijians living in towns, municipalities and cities to visit Voter Services Centres and register.

He says Local Government Elections have not been held for some time, and voter participation is important to ensure that people’s voices are heard in the development of their communities.

To be eligible, individuals must be registered on the National Register of Voters and must have lived in a ward for at least three months.

The Elections Office is reminding people to bring their voter card when registering, stressing that those without a card can present a birth certificate along with a valid form of identification such as a passport, driver’s licence, TIN card, social welfare card, student ID or marriage certificate.

The Fijian Elections Office says it will gradually roll out Voter Services Centres across all 13 municipalities, with full coverage expected by April 20.

Registration is currently available in Suva, Nasinu, Lautoka, Nadi and Labasa.

Services will expand to Nausori, Lami, Sigatoka and Ba from Wednesday, before reaching Levuka, Savusavu, Tavua and Rakiraki by April 20.

The FEO is urging all eligible voters to take part in the registration process and contribute to shaping the future of their municipalities.
