Cabinet approves proposed Electoral Act amendments to improve accessibility
Cabinet has approved proposed amendments to the Electoral Act 2014 aimed at making voting participation in Fiji more inclusive, accessible and transparent.

The proposed changes seek to remove unnecessary requirements that may prevent eligible voters from participating in elections.

The government says it will also expand eligibility for postal voting and improve accessibility for persons with disabilities.

The amendments are expected to strengthen electoral quality assurance and provide greater clarity around electoral processes.

Other proposed changes include measures aimed at creating a more level playing field for political parties and introducing clearer rules governing referendum campaigning.

A revised ballot paper format is also proposed to make it easier for voters to identify candidates and political parties when casting their votes.

The proposed amendments form part of efforts to strengthen Fiji’s electoral framework and ensure electoral processes remain accessible and clear for voters.
