Turaga made the comments while speaking about the Government’s expectations ahead of the cabinet meeting today.
He says the 31st August target date remains an important milestone for the Constitution Review Commission’s work.
Turaga says the Government is happy with the work carried out so far and will continue to monitor the progress of the constitutional review.
He says once the process reaches the appropriate stage, the Government is committed to tabling the Constitutional Bill in Parliament, after which it will go through the necessary parliamentary processes.
Turaga says the process will then move towards the final phase, where Fiji would, for the first time, hold a referendum on the proposed constitutional changes.
However, he says the specific mechanics of how the process will be carried out cannot be disclosed at this stage.
Turaga also thanked members of the public who have participated in the constitutional process, saying their contribution is important.
He says the Government remains committed to the process as part of its efforts to build the nation and secure a better future for the next generation.
