The matter where leader of the Fiji Labour Party Mahendra Chaudhry has sued former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad for allegedly calling him a crook will be called on the 15th of April to set a trial date.

Chaudhry has sued Professor Prasad for defamation where it was reported on the fijivillage News website on the 1st of August, 2024 that Professor Prasad allegedly called him the biggest crook and that he was hiding $2 million in Australia.

The comments were allegedly broadcast by fijivillage on YouTube and was also similarly quoted in the Fiji Sun the next day.

In another matter, Professor Prasad has also sued Chaudhry where it is alleged that on the 15th of May, 2024, a post on the official FLP facebook page questioned Professor Prasad’s allocation of $200,000 in government funding to the Global Girmit Institute in 2023 for the Girmit Conference.

The post alleges that Professor Prasad’s wife was a trustee of the Institute and that Professor Prasad misrepresented her role.

It further claims the Institute was deregistered in 2022, re-registered in 2023 with his wife listed as a trustee.

This matter has been adjourned to the 9th of April to fix the trial date.
