Two-way trade between Fiji and Canada, currently valued at more than $50 million, is expected to grow significantly following the opening of the new Canadian High Commission in Suva.
Canadian Secretary of State Randeep Sarai says Canada aims to increase bilateral trade by 50 percent within the next five years and to double it over the next decade.
Sarai says improved connectivity, including the establishment of direct flights, has created new opportunities for business, investment and trade between the two countries.
He adds that the presence of a High Commission in Fiji will provide greater support and resources for businesses looking to invest or expand operations.

He says key areas of potential growth include construction, mining, tourism and home building.
On consular services, Sarai confirmed that visa applications will continue to be processed through Canada’s office in Sydney for now, despite the opening of the High Commission in Suva.
He says High Commission will provide the full range of diplomatic and consular support, working closely with Canada’s offices in Sydney and New Zealand.
