Thousands of residents in the greater Tamavua and Tacirua areas are gradually having their water supply restored following the successful replacement of a critical DN600 butterfly valve at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.
The Water Authority of Fiji states that the repair work was completed at around 11 last night, after which controlled normalization of operations began, including the gradual restoration of raw water inflows to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.
WAF says water production is expected to progressively recover between 3 and 4 this morning, followed by the refilling of the Tamavua Reservoir and the staged restoration of water supply to affected areas.
The Authority says water supply is being restored in a careful and controlled manner to protect critical infrastructure from pressure surges, allow for the safe removal of airlocks, manage any temporary turbidity in the system, and ensure water production and reservoir levels stabilise before full distribution resumes.
WAF adds that water carting trucks remain deployed and will continue to assist affected customers as needed during the restoration period.
The Authority has thanked customers for their patience, cooperation, and understanding while these essential works were carried out to strengthen the reliability and resilience of the water supply syst
