Joseva Baleloa added another gold to the Green House medal tally after claiming the Senior Boys 1,500 metres race this morning at the Suva Grammar School Battle of the Colours 2026 at the HFC Bank Stadium.

The Year 13 student says he never expected to win gold today because he had been training for rugby rather than running, but when he saw that no one from his house had entered the event, he decided to take up the challenge.

He acknowledged his teachers, coach and family for their support and says he is looking forward to the zone competition.

Meanwhile, Semisi Veirogoci of Blue House won gold in the Intermediate Boys 1,500 metres.

He also highlighted that he had not prepared for athletics because he had been focusing on rugby.

He says he took up the challenge to help his house.

Sam Lee of Yellow House won gold in the Junior Boys category, while Isoa Maravu of Green House finished first in the Sub-Junior grade.

After Day 1 of competition, Green House leads the medal tally with 14 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze.

Blue House is in second place with 7 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze, while Red House is third with 3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze.

Yellow House is fourth with 2 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze.
