Australia based Digicel Fiji women’s soccer team attacker, Vanisha Kumar says the women’s game in Fiji has really improved and is going in the right direction.

Kumar was born in Campbelltown, Sydney but her parents are from Field 40, Lautoka. She started playing soccer at the age of 11 with Newcastle Rams.

She scored Fiji’s first goal against Solomon Islands in the pool matches of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup.

Kumar who is an integral part of the Kulas says when she was young, the game was a bit faster in Australia however with all the developments in Fiji, it really matches up.

Kumar first played for Fiji in the 2011 South Pacific Games and also featured in the 2015 Games.

The Kulas will take on Cook Islands in the third quarter final of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup at 4pm today at the HFC Bank Stadium.

Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea will take on Samoa in the first semi final at 4pm on Wednesday. Samoa defeated New Caledonia 4-2 while Papua New Guinea beat Tonga 3-2 in penalties in the first two quarter finals.

The winner of the Women's Nations Cup will qualify for the inter-confederation playoff for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The playoff will be played in New Zealand next year.

The inter-confederation playoffs will determine the final three qualification spots for the FIFA Women's World Cup.

It will feature 10 teams from 6 confederations split into three groups, with the winner of each group qualifying for the Women's World Cup.
