18-year-old Lenyna Rae Dugu says she never thought of competing in a high-level competition such as the Commonwealth Championship in India and winning two medals from this competition was a dream come true.

Rae won gold in the Junior 87kg event and bronze in the Senior 87kg event.

Speaking to fijivillage Sports, Dugu says her journey to the Championship was challenging as she had to try and balance her studies and training.

The 18-year-old says she learned a lot during her time in India, and her hard work and sacrifices have paid off after winning two medals for Fiji.

She says she used to take part in swimming before switching to weightlifting where she fell in love with the sport and tried to make a name for herself.

Dugu has also shown her interest to represent Fiji in the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands from 19th November to 2nd December.

The 18-year-old is advising youths to keep going and keep trying no matter how many times they fall.
