Permanent Secretary Dr. James Fong.

Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong says the soldiers that breached quarantine protocols are a small group and because they are a small group, we can’t blame the whole group.

He says the soldiers have worked well with them for about a year.

Doctor Fong says there are other countries that have more resources that could not be COVID-19 contained for 365 days.

He says they will deal with the problem moving forward and they will come up with measures to mitigate the risk of soldiers guarding soldiers.

Doctor Fong says they still have to receive the returning soldiers and he can’t keep any Fijian citizen away from home.

He says there are other options that they have but unfortunately it will require pulling back some medical staff and re-deploying them into quarantine facilities.
