We must have a Fiji that respects, protects and safeguard the rights of the indigenous people - Jale

We must have a Fiji that respects, protects and safeguard the rights of the indigenous people as set out in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.

This was highlighted by SODELPA MP Anare Jale in his response to the President’s speech saying that the President made reference to the political discourse on the topic  f indigenous rights suggesting dangerous and hateful rhetoric stoking fear, sowing division and fueling unwarranted animosity.

Jale says that he is not clear on the reasons why the FijiFirst government has not endorsed the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.

Jale also spoke about how he was removed from his office in 2006.

He says that there are many experienced and qualified Fijians that are working abroad and would return to Fiji given the opportunity.

Jale says that there is no need for a large number of expatriates who are serving in various sectors of the economy when we have our own people who are qualified.

Jale also believes in empowering the rural and outer island communities.

He also spoke about how Sitiveni Rabuka helped in winning an additional 6 more seats for the Opposition side.

Jale says that this is a reflection of the shift of the minds and hearts of the voting population.
