Waitt Institute which works with island governments and communities to restore coral reefs and fisheries will provide financial and technical support to the Fijian Government through a memorandum of understanding which it has signed with the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Fisheries.

The value of support has not been revealed.

The agreement aims to implement 30% of protection of Fiji’s waters from 0-200 nautical miles and support ocean management.

Attorney General and Minister responsible for Climate Change, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum says this is another fundamental step towards better, bluer and more sustainable future.

He says they understand that the greatest good they can achieve is to protect the earth and undo decades of reckless damage done to the natural world.

The Founder and Chairman of the Waitt Institute, Ted Waitt says they will work together with the local communities and stakeholders to develop a holistic plan that can be sustainable.

When asked, Waitt says they cannot disclose the value of financial and technical assistance.
