Villagers of Vunaniu Village in Serua will not have to worry anymore about going for weeks without water after a heavy rain event as they were gifted four 10,000 litre water tanks today.

According to the villagers, the pipes at the bridge burst, so they have to resort to going to the nearby creek for washing, bathing and even drinking water.

The Vanua Sautu Initiative: A Sustainable, Prosperous, and Resilient Community Project funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiative stepped in to help the villagers with their reef to ridge initiative.

Vunaniu Village Turaga ni Koro, Ratu Keni Bukarau says he is grateful for all the help by the NGOs in their village.

karau says they are also grateful for all the workshops and training provided by the NGOs as it has helped them a lot.

Next week the villagers will get financial literacy training.

The Non Government Organisation says this is just the beginning as they have a few projects in the village including the goal of planting thousands of trees.

They are planting native species like Dakua Makadre and Dakua Salusalu to help in retaining the soil on the ridges as well as fruit trees like white guava which the villagers can sell.
