Good news for the north, as students on school break will be able to enjoy the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North starting this Saturday at Subrail Park with their families.

The festival will provide students, parents and the elderly with the opportunity to enjoy a week of festivities featuring a variety of food, amusements and entertainment.

The theme for this year’s festival is “Our North – Our Future.”

The Queen contestants of the Festival will be advocating on a wide range of issues affecting the North, and how best they can empower our people to address them.

The focus will be on cultural celebrations that highlight the region’s rich traditions, and how culture can shape the future.

Contestants will also advocate on important issues such as the environment, education, mental health, drug use among youths, HIV (a major threat to the community), and agriculture.

The festival will begin this Saturday and conclude on the 6th of September.
