A heavy rain warning, a flash flood alert and a strong wind warning remains in place for the whole of Fiji.
The centre of Category 3 Tropical Cyclone Vaianu was located at about 380 kilometres west of Yasawa-i-rara and 380 kilometres west-northwest of Nadi this morning.
TC Vaianu is currently moving southeast at about 10 kilometres per hour and is expected to lie 280 kilometres southwest of Nadi or 250km west-southwest of Kadavu at 3am tomorrow.
The Nadi Weather Office says the forecast to midnight for the Fiji group: Over Land areas of the Northern Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Western half of Viti Levu[ from Sigatoka-Coral Coast through Nadi to Rakiraki, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands: Expect fresh to strong northeasterly winds with speeds of 30 to 45 kilometres per hour and gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour.
The winds will become northerly and increase to 60 kilometres per hour and gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour from today.
Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas.
Isolated damages to houses made of old corrugated iron or timber or unsheilded structures in exposed communities and broken tree branches can be expected.
These indirect effects of Cyclone Vaianu will continue from now until Wednesday.
