Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says Telecom Fiji Limited will launch a fibre optic cable from Labasa to Seaqaqa and then to Savusavu.

Sayed-Khaiyum says there is a pipe connection to a cable in Savusavu which was funded by a loan from the World Bank.

He says this will ensure Vanua Levu is very well connected and is a site for business process outsourcing.

The Minister says many people want to invest in Fiji because Fijians speak good English with neutral accents.

He also says investors do not need to invest millions of dollars to train Fijians to deliver English in different accents.

The Minister also says they want to retain people in Vanua Levu and encourage Fijians from Viti Levu to move there.

Sayed-Khaiyum is encouraging Outsource Fiji to market itself as there will be stability in policies.

He adds there will be tax holidays for up to 20 years in the BPO sector.

He says the 2022/2023 National Budget has allocated $1 million to land a second submarine cable on the west coast of Viti Levu.
