Vancouver 7s: Fijiana loses 24-26 to Great Britain

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team lost 24-26 to Great Britain in their first game of the Vancouver 7s tournament earlier this morning.

Fijiana started the game well with a try to Reapi Uluinasau in the 3rd minute to take an early 5-0 lead.

Ana Maria Naimasi extended the lead to 10-0 with an unanswered try heading into half time.

Great Britain fought back and scored a try in the 8th minute to close the gap to 10-7 before Naimasi scored her second try extending the Fjiana’s lead to 17-7.

Great Britain’s Jasmin Joyce scored their second try in the 10th minute before Rhona Loyd touched down in the 11th minute to give Great Britain a 19-17 lead.

Uluinasau grabbed her second try of the match to regain the lead before Jade Shekells broke the hearts of the Fijians and scored the winning try for Great Britain with the conversion from Meghan Jones.

Fijiana now turns their focus to their second game against Colombia at 12.14pm today.

They take on New Zealand at 7.06am tomorrow.

In the other pool A match, New Zealand beat Colombia 60-0.
