It is important to understand and know the values of respect and care for others and not only for ourselves.

This was highlighted by Wairuku Primary School Head Boy, Trishat Prasad when asked by fijivillage News about some of the values portrayed by Ratu Sir Josefa Lalabalavu Vanayaliyali Sukuna, which we as Fijians need to continue to follow.

Prasad says for our nation to become successful, we need to work together to achieve better in life.

A school teacher at Wairuku Primary School, Kunnal Kumar, says Ratu Sukuna was a great leader who promoted values of care and unity in a multi-racial society

Kumar says regardless of our identity we need to work together for peace and change.

He says the Ratu Sukuna celebration theme for this year is 'Celebrating Visionary Leadership for Fiji through Education and Culture,' and it reminds them that culture is an important element to be taught to our children.

He adds the attitude seen by many children in school is the result of a lack of culture which leads to the lack of values and manners.

He further says the first school where children should be taught values and culture is home.

Meanwhile, 12 students from Wairuku Primary School were part of the celebration at Albert Park.
