Using rental cars as taxis needs to stop – Koya

Minister for Transport Faiyaz Koya

Minister for Transport Faiyaz Koya says many Fijians were so greedy during COVID-19 that they were using rental cars as taxis, and this needs to stop.

The Minister highlighted this in the 2021 Annual General Meeting of Fiji Rental Car Association held in Suva.

Koya says he received reports in the Northern Division where people say that Fijians rent cars for $50, use it as a taxi and make $250 in a day, and then return the rental car.

He says we have all learnt and discovered new ways of going about our work and business during the pandemic.

Koya says some laws need to change and LTA is quite aware of this.

He says the Government will also strengthen the law to suit the Fiji Rental Association.
