Smiles were all around this morning as flights resumed at Labasa Airport following six weeks of closure.

A total of 43 elated passengers touched down on the first Fiji Link flight to land at Waiqele, marking the official return of operations in the North.

The Fiji Airways crew made the occasion extra special by welcoming passengers with necklaces, refreshments and warm island smiles upon arrival.

Fiji Airports says it was a proud moment as they welcomed flights back, reconnected people, and marked the return of operations in the North.

They say the upgraded infrastructure will better accommodate aircraft operations, delivering safer, more efficient and more reliable services for passengers, airlines and cargo movements.

They add that Labasa Airport will continue operating from its temporary terminal, with the runway now fully operational, as preparations for the new terminal proceed.
