The USA Men’s 7s side has named their 13-member team for the first leg of the 2024/2025 World 7s Series, with five players expecting to make their international 7s at the Dubai 7s this weekend.

The five players are Peter Sio Jr., Darius Law, Michael Hand, Porter Goodrum and Darrell Williams.

Coach Simon Amor has named Aaron Cummings and Faitala Talapusi to co-captain the side.

They will be assisted by experienced players such as Lucas Lacamp, Marcus Tupuola and Pita Vi.

The Dubai tournament will also be Amor’s first outing as the USA 7s coach after taking up the role in September.

Amor says with a number of great and long-standing players retiring after the Paris Olympics, Dubai has become the first step for a new group on their journey aiming to win a medal at the LA 2028 Olympics.

He says the team selected for Dubai, therefore has five players making their debuts.

He adds they are looking to evolve how they play, using their talent and speed.

Team USA is in Pool C alongside Fiji, New Zealand and Spain.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side's first match is against Spain at 6.06pm Saturday, they will then take on the USA at 9.52pm before they play New Zealand at 3.16am Sunday in their final pool match.

The men’s cup quarter finals will kick off at 6.48pm Sunday, the semi finals will start at 10.06pm Sunday, and the cup final will be at 4.11am next Monday.

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s is in Pool A alongside Ireland, Australia, and China. They will take on Ireland at 5.44pm Saturday in their first pool match, they will then face Australia at 9.05pm and play China at 1.13am Sunday in their final pool match.

The women’s cup quarterfinals will kick off at 5.20pm Sunday, the semi finals will begin at 9.12pm, and the cup final will be at 3.35am next Monday.
