The Fiji Airways men’s national 7s team has lost to Argentina 19-10 in their cup quarter final match this morning.

Fiji scored the first try through Jerry Matana but the conversion was unsuccessful.

Argentina replied with an unconverted try in the corner to level the score 5-all.

Both teams headed into the break locked at 5-all.

Fiji was reduced to 6 man early in the second spell after a yellow card to Vuiviawa Naduvalo for a deliberate knock-on and Argentina capitalised and scored a converted try to lead 12-5.

Mistakes proved too costly for Fiji as Argentina stole possession from them inside their territory and ran in for their third try with a successful conversion to extend their lead to 19-5.

Matana scored his second try in the corner with an unsuccessful conversion after the full time hooter sounded for the final score.

Fiji will now play South Africa in the men’s 5th place semi final at 1.04pm.

The men’s cup semi final will begin at 1.48pm and the cup final will be at 6.56pm this evening.
