Fiji’s most decorated rugby 7s player, Jerry Tuwai has confirmed that he will be stepping away from rugby and will be looking to venture into coaching.

The 35-year-old made the announcement following the team’s second-place finish at the Paris Olympics Men’s rugby 7s competition over the weekend.

Tuwai says it has been a wonderful journey in rugby for him, especially winning two Olympic gold medals in Rio and Tokyo.

He says he was blessed to have gotten another opportunity to represent Fiji at another Olympics and share his experience with the new players in Paris.

Tuwai says his plan now is to get into coaching and hopefully, help out coach Osea Kolinisau in the future.

Tuwai made his debut for Fiji at the Gold Coast 7s in 2014 and has achieved some great successes in his rugby journey which includes two Olympics gold medals and 1 Olympics silver medal, 3 HSBC World 7s series titles, a Rugby 7s World Cup title and 2 commonwealth games silver medals.

He was also named the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year in 2019 and in 2020, he was named the World Rugby Men’s 7s Player of the Decade.

Tuwai and the Fiji Men’s 7s side is expected to arrive back into the country this weekend.
