Tuva has caused one of the major upsets of day 1 of the McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s competition after beating NZ 2 24-19 in their pool match today.

NZ 2 had the services of current NZ 7s extended squad members but was edged by a very determined Tuva side.

Tuva took a comfortable 19-7 lead at the break after scoring three tries and two conversions while NZ only managed a converted try before the break.

Tuva extended their lead in the second spell with one unconverted try while NZ 2 scored two more tries and 1 conversion but was not enough as the Nadroga-based side held on to claim the win.

Meanwhile, in some other games earlier today, Bula Bay 7s edged Manu Samoa 7s 14-12, Drua 7s held Seattle Barbarians 14-all, NZ 1 defeated Colo West Highlanders 24-14, McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s beat Devo Babas 26-12, Australian Select 7s defeated Takita Brothers 7s 19-7 and Fiji 7s defeated Brothers 19-5.

In the women’s competition, NZ Development Women thrashed Lava City Savusavu 47-0.
