All Blacks lock and Blues skipper, Patrick Tuipulotu has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby until the end of 2023 so he can be the man to lift the Blues' first silverware since their last Super Rugby crown in 2003.

The 27-year-old has played 30 Test for the All Blacks, as well as 67 Super Rugby appearances for the Blues.

Tuipulotu told 1 NEWS that he wants success in New Zealand Rugby which is why he wanted to stay.

He says his time with the Blues, they have not been successful and now its time for a change since they have had a good start winning five of their 7 Super Rugby match before the COVID-19 pandemic suspended the competition in March.

He adds another reason why he wants to remain in New Zealand is the All Blacks jersey and the Rugby World Cup in France in 2023.

The Blues will take on the Chiefs at 7.05pm Saturday while the Hurricanes will face the Crusaders at 3.35pm Sunday.
