Tom Cruise has been a main stay on the Hollywood scene for the last four decades.

Easy to see why as he has just been named the highest paid movie star by Variety, and will be raking in close to USD$100 million for Top gun: Maverick.

All that money is not just from his salary but from ticket sales and also from movie rentals.

60 year old Cruise not only stars in the sequel but is also a producer as well.

Top Gun: Maverick is now Paramount's highest grossing movie ever worldwide taking in USD$1.2 billion globally and the first of Cruise's movie to pass the billion dollar mark.

Next up for Tom Cruise are the next two Mission: Impossible films - with sources estimating his paycheck to be between USD$12M to $14M - he earns a sizable percentage of the movies’ first-dollar gross.

That means he 'gets box office bonuses before the studio even breaks even' ensuring he always get a good pay day.

The second biggest earner, according to Variety, is Will Smith.

He signed on to star in the action thriller Emancipation for $35 million in June 2020.
