Thousands of people including students will now benefit from the newly built Vuniyasi Bridge in Nadi which will allow them to travel without any hassles.

The bridge is located right at the entrance of Nadi Town and was commissioned today by Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau and the Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Ewen McDonald.

McDonald says this is a major step for their Vuvale partnership to improve and support quality transport infrastructure priorities across the Fijian communities.

The High Commissioner says the project is critical as it not only facilitates the smooth flow of goods and services but also provides continuity of economic growth, trade and tourism.

He says Vuniyasi Bridge now has the ability to withstand a 100-year rainfall event that would often make the previous bridge crossing impassable.

Ro Filipe also acknowledged the assistance from the Government of Australia which demonstrates the spirit of partnership between the countries.

He adds the Government is working collaboratively with development partners such as Australia in the improvement and modernising of Fiji's road infrastructure to be climate resilient.
