Thousands experiencing low water pressure or intermittent supply

Restoration expected mid-day today

Thousands of people living along Princes Road from Tamavua to Colo-i-Suva, Flagstaff, Toorak, Walu Bay, and Nasinu are expected to experience low water pressure or intermittent supply after one of the four pumps at the Waimanu Raw Water Pump Station developed mechanical issues yesterday afternoon.

The Water Authority of Fiji says the faulty pump has been taken out of service for urgent inspection and repairs, and this has temporarily reduced raw water inflows into the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant by around 15 million litres per day (a 20 percent reduction, from 75ML/d to 60ML/d).

They say their mechanical and electrical team has been working overnight to remove the damaged unit and install a spare, overhauled pump.

WAF says water supply restoration is expected by mid-day to evening today, but this may change depending on the extent of repairs required.

It adds to the compounding, and inflows from Headworks 3 and Savura have also dropped due to ongoing dry weather.

The Authority says if these conditions persist, it may take longer for reservoirs to recover, which could mean extended low-pressure periods in some areas.
