Team Fiji swimmers have won Team Fiji’s first two medals, a silver and a bronze at the Pacific Games 2023 yesterday.

16-year-old Kelera Mudunasoko won Fiji’s first medal finishing second in the 200m Women’s Breaststroke.

Mudunasoko says she was happy with her time and what she has achieved especially winning Fiji’s first medal at this year’s Pacific Games.

She says it is an honour for her to represent her country and since it's her first time representing Fiji on the international stage, she feels that all the hard work and sacrifices are starting to pay off.

Mudunasoko dedicated her silver medal win to her parents and her coaches.

Team Fiji’s second medal came from the 4x100m Women’s freestyle relay team comprising Rosemarie Rova, Anahira McCutcheon, Matelita Naisara and Marseleima Moss.

The relay team finished 3rd with a time of 4 minutes 10.74 seconds.

In a few other games that Team Fiji featured in yesterday, the men’s table tennis side lost to PNG 4-1 while the women’s side thrashed Samoa 5-0.

The women’s basketball side narrowly lost to Samoa 75-74 in their final pool match.

The women’s volleyball side beat Samoa 3 sets to 1.

The Vodafone Fiji Bati 9s side recorded a 20-0 win against Tonga in their first match before losing to Samoa in their second match 18-12 while the Vodafone Fiji Bulikula 9s side beat Samoa 22-10 in the first game and lost to Tonga 10-8 in their second pool match.

Team Fiji will be featuring in 10 different competitions today including archery, basketball, football, rugby league 9s, sailing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, and weightlifting.
