Teachers are now able to directly communicate with the Ministry of Education and with each other as an online Teachers Talanoa Platform has been launched.

Education Minister Premila Kumar says one of the difficulties they normally see in the education system is the disconnect between teachers and Ministry staff.

Kumar says once schools open and students return to the classroom there will be a number of issues that teachers have to deal.

Kumar adds this is the first time 13,000 school teachers from around different parts of Fiji can talk about innovative educational programmes, comment on the curriculum, share ideas amongst each other, share lessons and some of the classroom practices that have been introduced or even the difficulties they are facing.

She says they have also appointed a facilitator who will be going through the comments on a daily basis, make a comment or respond to queries.

Kumar has also acknowledged the lengths some teachers have gone through to provide learning material to their students.

She says they have heard and read some very inspirational stories about how teachers have had to cross rivers, streams and mountains to reach out to the students.

The Minister further says the platform will only be visible to teachers and Ministry staff.
