Collective responsibility to safeguard the environment and practice sustainable waste management will ensure a better future for Fiji.

This has been highlighted by Pacific Recycling Foundation Founder, Amitesh Deo during the Global Recycling Day 2024 press conference in Koronivia, Nausori this morning.

The theme for Global Recycling Day is "Keeping Promises: A Commitment to Sustainability."

Deo says Fiji is a beautiful place and we must continue to keep it that way by taking the best care for our environment and surrounding and taking meaningful steps together is vital for a greener and more sustainable future.

He says the Global Recycling Day celebration will be at the Queen Victoria School and the ceremony will be officiated by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka on the 18th of March.

Deo says there are many people who engage in informal waste picking in Fiji and the theme is also a promise to treat them with dignity as they also take care of our surrounding.

He further says that the celebration is funded by their partners.

Tourism Fiji CEO, Brent Hill says we must keep Fiji clean and emphasise sustainability and the Global Recycling Day will allow us to re-access our action.

Hill adds that they will implement multiple I-Recycle Hub sites across Wailoaloa, Natadola and other hotels within the industry.

Other partners represented at the press conference were Swire Shipping, Pacific Energy, Fiji National University and Nestlé Fiji.
