The Water Authority of Fiji confirms that it is only adding fluoride to the water supplied to residents in the Suva/Nausori corridor.
This is in response to the Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma’s comments earlier this week that adequate levels of fluoride is needed in our water supply to fight dental issues and other medical problems.
The Water Authority said that out of the 14 water treatment plants in Fiji, fluoride is added at the Tamavua and Waila Water Treatment Plants.
By next year the Water Authority plans to start adding fluoride to the Nagado Treatment Plant which supplies water to Lautoka and Nadi.
It is the long term goal of the Water Authority to add Fluoride to all the water treatment plants in the country.
However due to the cost of the project there are no specific plans to start adding fluoride to the other 11 water treatment plants in Fiji.
