Suva Magistrate Joseph Daurewa makes order that Lateef be taken to Saint Giles Hospital

Suva Magistrate Joseph Daurewa has made an order that former Suva Lawyer, Shazran Abdul Lateef be taken to Saint Giles Hospital.

Magistrate Daurewa says that this is for examination and possible treatment.

Lateef appeared in court today for two cases in which he faces charges of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

In one case Lateef is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that on the 14th of August this year, Lateef was allegedly found with 0.0063 grams of methamphetamine and 7.5 grams of marijuana.

In the other case he was allegedly found with 1.8 grams of methamphetamine and 4 grams of marijuana on the 10th of this month and he is also charged with breach of bail condition.

Lateef told Magistrate Daurewa that he should be granted bail because he is not a threat to society and any third party.

He says his family is travelling from overseas to help him adding that there in no rehabilitation centre in the Suva Remand Centre.

Lateef told the court that he should be taken to Saint Giles where they have rehabilitation facilities.

He has been remanded in custody and both cases have been adjourned till Monday.
