Super Rugby teams will flaunt a heroic new strip this weekend, following a two-year deal with their apparel partner Classic Sportswear, adding a $209 Marvel-inspired jersey and supporters gear to the shelves.

Five teams from the Super Rugby Pacific competition have selected their favourite superhero from the Marvel Universe to represent during the ‘Kids Round’ this weekend.

The Highlanders picked the Hulk, the Chiefs went with Black Panther, the Crusaders selected Iron Man, the Hurricanes chose Captain America, and the Blues opted for Spider-Man.

Super Rugby Pacific CEO, Jack Mesley says the opportunity to target the “second generational fans” and “Marvel fans” across New Zealand was important for the growth of the game.

The Marvel collaboration alongside Super Rugby Pacific Fantasy has become “tools that are really important for us to engage with younger audiences and bring them into Super Rugby,” he said.

As the collaboration is only with teams whose apparel partner is Classic Sportswear, Moana Pasifika will not be included.

Super Kids round kicks off on Friday with the Hurricanes taking on the Highlanders.
