Students from around the country including the maritime areas had first had experience and spoke to many schools at the University of the South Pacific during KPMG USP Open Day.
The event drew thousands of visitors, including students from as far as Yasawa Secondary School.
The Open Day provided a valuable platform for prospective students to explore career pathways and engage with USP’s diverse academic programmes.
Adi Cakobau School Year 13 student Silina Nabete described the experience as “insightful and exciting.”
She says she was amazed by how big the USP campus is and saw so many different things today, from hands-on science experiments in the labs to the inspiring displays from the different faculties.
Nabete shares that her overall experience was an amazing one and that the USP staff were very helpful and friendly.
Wainimala Secondary School Teacher Venina Naisewa emphasised the importance of such events in preparing Year 13 students for tertiary education.
She says that today’s visit has been an eye-opener for her students and that it has positively impacted them.
Outgoing USP Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia, commended the success of the event, calling it one of the most important dates on the university calendar.
He says this a special and inspiring time that they truly look forward to as it opens doors to students, showcasing unique cultural richness, diverse academic offerings, and the strong sense of community that define USP in the vibrant, resilient cultures of our Oceanic region.
Professor Ahluwalia also praised the dedication of USP’s staff and students in organising an engaging programme and expressed his confidence that prospective students would leave feeling motivated to join the university.
