Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh and Opposition MP Sachida Nand

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh has revealed in Parliament that some students who graduated with Secondary School teaching courses are now teaching in Primary Schools as there is a low number of teachers in Primary Schools.

While responding to the question from Opposition MP Sachida Nand on which areas we have an abundance of graduates and cannot get employment, Singh says he knows of one area, which is education, because he was involved in the education sector.

He says some have been waiting for three to four years to get employed.

The Minister says Fiji is burdened with unemployed graduates or diploma holders because of poor planning in the past.

Singh says we did not plan according to the demands of the job market.

He adds they have a five to ten-year plan to solve this issue.
