Sports is more than just a game it's a reflection of our national spirit which embodies the determination, passion and the resilience that define us as a people.
This was shared by the Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro during the opening of the Vodafone Fiji Basketball Secondary School Championship at the Yat Sen Secondary School Hall.
Radrodro says this Championship has been a cornerstone for youth development since the 1970s and has consistently produced some of the great player's in Fiji.
He says basketball has instilled discipline and teamwork that are essential for national progress.
Radrodro says schools must prioritize student participation and see sports not merely as a physical activity but as a strategic investment in our youth.
He says through sports that students learn to persevere in the face of adversity to work together towards a common goal.
International School won the Under 15 boys title last year and Suva Grammar School won the U15 girls title.
In the Under 17 division Yat Sen Secondary School will defend the Under 17 boys title while Grammar are the defending champs for the girls division.
Marist Brothers High School are the defending Under 19 boys champions while Adi Cakobau School are defending the girls U19 title.
20 schools are taking part in this year's Basketball Championship.
