Grassroots teams that will be participating in this year’s 47th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s competition across the three divisions will have a chance to win themselves $5,000 Joe Rodan special incentive prize money if they knock out top teams from the competition.

Marist Rugby Club President, Lawrence Tikaram says organizers will decide which top teams will be the target and then they will lay a challenge to the grassroots teams.

He says if a grassroots team beats the top team that has been mentioned by the organizers, they go into the draw to win the extra cash.

Tikaram says with the likes of Police, Army, Wardens and a few other top local teams confirming their participation at this year’s Marist 7s, the organizers have come up with this initiative to motivate grassroots teams to try and beat these top teams.

Meanwhile, Tikaram has also confirmed that there will be a Fiji Shadow team and a New Caledonian team participating in this year’s tournament.

The Marist 7s will be held from the 16th to 18th of next month at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
