A social media post claiming Labasa Police had assaulted a man is false.

Police say they were responding to a case of domestic violence in Waiqele where a 68 year old woman was allegedly assaulted by her 48 year old son, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

While trying to arrest the accused, Police say their officers were allegedly assaulted whereby officers took necessary actions to subdue the man who refused to cooperate and continued to threaten the victim.

The victim has also given a statement refuting the claims made about the arresting officers.

The suspect has been charged with serious assault, resisting arrest, assault causing actual bodily harm and a Domestic Violence Restraining Order has been taken out against him by the victim. The man will be produced in the Labasa Magistrates Court tomorrow.
