A boiled fruit cake baked by 55-year-old small business owner, Martha Wedlock of Nasinu helped her win Viti FM’s Vavavi Keke Cake Competition.

Wedlock, who won the $250 prize money says her husband is a retired policeman who now works as a carpenter but due to the impacts of COVID-19, her husband gets less jobs so she operates a cake and jam business from home to earn more income for the family.

She says she will use some money for tithes and the rest to celebrate Christmas with her family.

Wedlock says she always bakes at home for family functions but she has participated for the first time in this competition.

She adds with Christmas around the corner, she feels even more excited after winning this competition.

Wedlock says baking is her passion and the boiled Christmas fruit cake is her family’s favourite.

The 2nd prize of $150 was won by Laite Buatoka of Nadi and 3rd prize of $100 was given to Wati Laisa of Lami.

The competition was sponsored by Ram Sami and Sons and Golden Harvest Baking Range.
