Six men have been charged with two counts of unlawful importation of illicit drugs following the discovery of two separate consignments of methamphetamine weighing more than three kilograms.
Police say the offences are alleged to have taken place between March and July this year, in what authorities describe as a coordinated attempt to smuggle the drugs into Fiji.
Laboratory tests have confirmed that the seized substances are methamphetamine.
Police highlight that the sixth accused faces two additional charges of breach of secrecy under Section 52(4) of the Fiji Inland Revenue and Customs Service Act 1998, for allegedly disclosing confidential customs information linked to the alleged importation.
Police add that the formal charges were laid after consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
All six accused are in custody and will appear before the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
Authorities say investigations are continuing as law enforcement agencies work to uncover the full scope of the alleged drug network.
