Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that he is willing to continue to lead SODELPA into the 2022 general elections.

In a Facebook post today, Rabuka says he was aiming for a second term for the betterment of the country and the party’s constitution did not expressly state that he could not re-contest.

He says that he will be available as a normal party member, but will be applying for the party leader position.

Rabuka stated that the party published an advertisement last Saturday calling for expressions of interests from interested individuals for the position.

The Party Leader says his term lapses if the general election result is not favourable, and it lapses according to the party constitution.

Rabuka says this came into effect after the 2014 election when SODELPA amended its constitution, making it compulsory for the party leader to relinquish the role in the event of an election loss.
