Police officers from the Sigatoka Policing District are strengthening their community engagement activities by initiating cleanup campaigns and fundraising drives for the various communities in Nadroga/Navosa.

The Sigatoka officers have formed a 7s Rugby Team known as Veiqaravi Nadroga Navosa, and the team has been competing in local 7s tournaments and also engaging with the community, by assisting in their village community work.

The Officer in Charge of Sigatoka Policing District, Assistant Superintendent of Police Silio Finau says the members of their 7s rugby team helps with village community work in Naduri and other taskings they want them to assist with last week.

He says they even assisted in preparing their village grounds for the Naduri 7s tournament.

ASP Finau adds before the Nawaka 7s tournament, they were in Nawaka a few days early and conducted some community work and community awareness as well.

He adds they are also planning to revive 7s rugby tournaments in villages in Nadroga/Navosa in the coming weeks with gate takings from these tournaments handed over to the respective club hosting the tournament, to help purchase their rugby training gear.

The Veiqaravi Nadroga Navosa players and management are all police officers serving in Sigatoka District with only two civilians playing for the team.

The team was at Lawai Village assisting with the village cleanup before the commencement of the Lawai 10-aside rugby tournament today.

The tournament organizers and the police team will hold a fundraising drive with all proceeds going towards assisting the Lawai Rugby Club.
