Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu

We are urging California state leaders to protect the rights and dignity of Fijian caregivers and other immigrant families by offering pathways to citizenship and relief for individuals with unauthorized immigration status.

That is the call made by Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu as he says local efforts should be supported to protect immigrant families and promote a culture of understanding and inclusion.

Seruiratu says they stand in solidarity with Fijian caregivers and other immigrant families in California, and they will continue to advocate for policies that uphold the values of compassion, justice, and equality for all.

The Leader of Opposition says they are deeply concerned about the well-being and safety of the Fijian caregivers who are in the United States with unauthorized immigration status.

He says the recent escalation of immigration enforcement by the Trump administration has created a state of fear and uncertainty for many former Fiji residents and the meaningless rhetoric from misinformed commentators has made the situation worse.

Seruiratu says as caregivers, these individuals have dedicated themselves to providing vital support and care to families in California, including vulnerable seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

The Opposition Leader says they have made significant contributions to the economic and social fabric of the state, and their presence is a testament to the strength and resilience of immigrant communities. He says unfortunately, the Federal administration's crackdown on unauthorized immigration has put these caregivers at risk of deportation.

Seruiratu says they recognize that many Fijian caregivers have been working in the state for years, building relationships with their employers and patients, and have become an integral part of the care system.

He acknowledges the tremendous contribution our caregiver community in California have made towards their families at home and the national economy.
