Serious questions raised on Fiji 7s team’s poor performance

Serious questions have been raised about the poor performance of the Fiji Airways National Men’s 7s team in the 2022/2023 World 7s series, the latest was their 9th-place finish in the Toulouse 7s last weekend.

The last time Fiji tasted victory in any international 7s tournament was at the 7s Rugby World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa in September last year.

The loss in Toulouse last weekend has marked the 11th consecutive tournament where Fiji has failed to win a gold medal.

With the series wrapping up in London this weekend, Fiji was lucky enough to have booked a spot for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris but that does not rule out the questions that have been asked by many about the dismal performance of the team.

Fiji’s first match is against Ireland at 9.23pm Saturday, they will then meet Argentina at 12.53am Sunday and face Japan at 4.07am Sunday in their final pool match.

The cup quarter finals will start at 8.45pm Sunday, the cup semi-finals will begin at 12.33am Monday and the cup final will be held at 4.26am Monday.
