Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation CEO, Kameli Batiweti

Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation CEO, Kameli Batiweti says election day is one day in a 4 year calendar and so some serious planning ought to be done by businesses to ensure everyone in their business have the opportunity to cast their vote.

Batiweti says businesses, who are open tomorrow do know whether they are capable of closing for half a day or not.

He says as an example, some supermarkets close around 2 to 3pm on a public holiday whilst others remain open till late at night.

Batiweti adds he is certain that those businesses who remain open till after 6pm, which is the closing time for voting, will have a plan in place to ensure their staff have the opportunity to cast their vote and it is a matter of planning and having contingency plans.

The CEO adds it would be a sad state of affairs if businesses are not allowing their employees to vote tomorrow because they will deprive their employees this opportunity to determine the Government they would like to see in power for the next 4 years.
