Scientific and technological innovation alone will not solve the climate crisis.
German Ambassador to Fiji, Andreas Porthmann highlighted this at the opening of the Climate Talks with Germany in Fiji, with a topic that lies at the heart of both regional identity and global urgency - "Roots of Resilience - Traditional Knowledge for a Changing Climate" at the Forum Secretariat.
Porthmann says we need to learn from those who have lived on the Blue Pacific Continent sustainably with nature for centuries.
The Ambassador says Pacific communities have long understood the rhythms of the environment, and their traditional systems hold valuable lessons not only for adaptation and resilience, but for rethinking our relationship with the natural world.
He adds that is why they set up this space so they can not simply talk about the Pacific, but to listen to the Pacific.
