The Education Ministry says schools will be closed until they have received clearance from the National Disaster Management Office that the weather has improved and once it has been reassessed and cleared by the Health Ministry that it is once again safe for schools to reopen.

A statement by the Ministry says schools being used as evacuation centres will need to be decontaminated before reopening.

37 schools in the Western Division, 8 schools in the Northern Division, 8 schools in the Central Division and 5 schools in the Eastern Division are being used as evacuation centres.

The Ministry says heads of schools are assisting in ensuring that COVID-safety protocols are in place in the evacuation centres.

Teachers are also reporting to schools so that they can be involved in the re-setting, cleaning up and preparation of schools for reopening.
